تركيب الذرة  أن ذرة أي عنصر تتكون من نواة موجبة الشحنة والالكترونات السالبة تتحرك حولها في أفلاك. وبذلك تعتبر الذرة نظاما ديناميكيا معقدا. وتتكون الذرة من عدد من البروتونات ( Z ) وعدد من النيوترونات ( N ) , ويمكن اعتبار البروتون والنيوترون حالتين مختلفتين لجسيم واحد. يطلق عليه النيوكليون ( nucleon ) وتساوي كلته الذرة في المعدل   ما يقارب 10 -26 kg وبقرب معدل نصف قطر الذرة من 10 -8 cm أما نصف   قطر نواة الذرة فيقارب 10 -13 CM عدد البروتونات في النواة ثابت للعنصرالواحد وموجود في جدول مندليف . ويساوي مجموع البروتونات و النيترونات في النواة الوزن الذري للعنصر تقريباَ فمثلا تحتوي نواه ة ذرة الليثيوم ( Li   ) على ثلاثة بروتونات لذالك فان العدد الذري لهذا العنصر يساوي ثلاثة  وتحتوي نواته أيضا على ثلاثة بروتونات  وتحتوي نواته كذلك  على ثلاثة بروتونات ,  ومن ثم فان مجموع عدد البروتونات و النيوترونات في   نواه ذره  الليثيوم هو 6   وهو مساوي   للوزن الذري لعنصر اللييثوم تقريباَ . وتعتمد الصفات الكيمائية لأي عنصر بعدد ...
